3 Opportunities to Learn about Transparent Pricing in Orthopedics at AAOS 2021
San Diego City Skyline

The annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS 2021) is happening next week. HealthMe will be participating in a big way and we wanted to make sure you were aware of our participation in the hopes that you’re a) attending and b) able to stop by to participate and just say hello.

Physician Entrepreneurship Panel

On Tuesday, August 31, Dr. Havig will be presenting from 1:30-2:30 p.m., as part of a symposium on physician entrepreneurship. It’s an evolving and complex landscape for physicians today, but the opportunities are massive. He will be presenting with other “OrthoFounders”, a group of over 70 physician entrepreneurs he co-founded to support innovation by orthopedic surgeons.  Dr. Havig has first-hand knowledge and understanding of the business principles that physicians need to maximize their ability to develop new technologies to improve our healthcare system for both patients and surgeons. “I feel we need more innovation from the true stakeholders in healthcare – the physicians and patients. We are in the trenches daily caring for patients and therefore feel we are best positioned to innovate.” Dr. Havig will be sharing his insights, ideas, and best practices and looking forward to question and input from attendees.

AAOS Poster Presentation

Dr. Havig will also be presenting a poster—PO226 “Do Orthopaedic Surgeons Accommodate Self-Pay Patients?”—the short answer: “not well enough.” Orthopedic groups simply aren’t prepared for transparent pricing. But it’s a place they need to get to. To serve the growing number of self-pay patients who are demanding price transparency physician groups across all specialties need to adopt comprehensive transparent pricing strategies. We’re hoping orthopedic surgeons will lead the pack and pave the way for others to follow suit!

Entrepreneurship in Orthopedics

Then, on September 2, Dr. Havig will be part of 2 additional Tech Talks with the OrthoFounders in the exhibit hall. From 2:00 to 2:30  HealthMe will participate in the inaugural “Orthopedic Shark Tank” –  where a number of innovative surgeon founded companies will present their technologies in a pitch competition format. Dr. Havig will also participate in another panel presentation from 4:00-4:45 p.m. on orthopedic entrepreneurship. You’ll hear from Dr. Having and other orthopedic surgeon entrepreneurs on how to take your idea from concept to a company. They’ll cover the “pearls and pitfalls” of orthopedic startups. This is truly a “can’t miss” session for any orthopedic physicians with new business ideas.

Meet the HealthMe team at AAOS

It’s going to be a jam-packed week and one we’re really looking forward to. We hope you’ll be able to attend and, if you are, hope to have the chance to connect and catch up with you.
