Ask any care navigator what their day actually looks like, and the answer is rarely glamorous. It's finding the right provider, checking whether they're in network, comparing prices across a handful of options, and making sure all of that lines up with what a specific patient needs. Traditional provider directories were never built to do that work. They hand back a list and leave the navigator to do the thinking.
Last month, HealthMe launched Agent Dora, an agentic AI care navigation tool built into the HealthMe Direct Specialty Care platform, to change that. Dora doesn't hand a navigator a list. It reasons through millions of structured data points, provider capabilities, transparent pricing, care pathways, network coverage, and comes back with a recommendation the navigator can act on immediately.
Instead of typing keywords into a search box, they ask Dora a question the way they'd ask a colleague down the hall. Dora reads the intent behind it and responds with a Dora Summary, a plain-language explanation of what it found and why, so the navigator can hand that reasoning straight to the member instead of piecing it together themselves.
Two care navigation organizations, Vensure Employer Solutions and Ault International Medical Management (AIMM), signed on as development partners well before Dora's public launch. AIMM put it to work across its entire care navigation team, using real cases to shape how Dora's recommendations and summaries showed up in an actual workflow, not a demo.
Kristina Brooks, EVP Benefits at Vensure Employer Solutions, says the partnership lets her team "accelerate and scale the work" they do for self-funded clients every day.
Dr. Michael Havig, HealthMe's founder and CEO, sees Dora the same way. "Dora acts as an intelligent partner," he said, built to take on the administrative burden so navigators can focus on the human interactions that actually improve the patient experience.
The common version promises to do the navigator's job for them. The version HealthMe built does the opposite: it clears out the searching, cross-referencing, and re-explaining that were never really the valuable part of a navigator's day, and leaves more room for the part that was, sitting with a member and helping them make a hard decision.
Self-funded employers feel the gap this closes most directly. Every extra minute a navigation team spends tracking down a provider, or every time a member lands somewhere that was never the right fit for their price point or their needs, shows up as real cost down the line. Agent Dora's real-time decision support, interactive maps, pricing comparisons, care pathways, and financial insights, generated in a single workflow, is built for exactly that gap.
Agentic AI in healthcare is still mostly a promise on a slide deck.
Based on how AIMM and Vensure are already using it, the answer is navigators spending less time searching and more time with the people they're there to help.
